Transforming Stories

Chippenham - GillinghamOmagh - Oundle - Shenley

Oundle is a delightful small market town with a population of around 6,000, sitting on the River Nene about 15 miles SW of Peterborough. The Baptist church in the town came into existence in 1992 and has always worshipped in local school buildings.

In 2010 an opportunity arose for the church to purchase a small building just off the Market Place to use as a community building. The church had the funds to purchase the building but some remedial and redesign work was necessary to make the building work as a community facility. We applied to BBF for a loan of 55,000 which was quickly approved and the work was completed for the building to open at the start of 2011.

An open meeting room was created with a hatch to a new kitchen and this provides a place for small mid week gatherings including a youth group, a Stitchat group and most importantly a drop in for coffee and a chat on market day each Thursday.

The first floor has an office for the Minister and administrator as well as a small room that can be used for counselling.

The whole facility has given the church a very real presence in the town and widened the range of connections we have been able to make.
